Strengthening the Family Rural/Farm School Associations and the Philippine Federation of FF/RS (PHILFEFFARS)

The FRS is an association of families, professionals and institutions that assume the responsibility of development and the promotion of rural environment. As such the associations under this project are also provided with strengthening activities to equip them of the skills needed towards managing the school and empowering them to become self-reliant. They make sure that educational system is relevant to the needs of the rural areas for development.

In 2011, two hundred forty-five (245) parents were trained in various organizational capacities. They were also involved in planning, lobbying for support from the private and government agencies and in drafting the curriculum of their school.

The associations were then federated into one organization called the Philippine Federation of Family Farm/Rural Schoos (PHILFEFFARS). Supposedly, the Federation will support the individual FFS/FRS in the country but they are not at that stage of development yet. In 2011, the Federation was able to conduct general membership meeting and reviewed theirs plans. A quarterly board meeting was also maintened.

One of the highlights of accomplishments of the Federation in 2011 was the actual passing of the House Bill 6050 authored by Hon. Congresswoman Sharon S. Garin in the House of Representatives. The bill is a legislation that supports the Family Rural/farm Schools as an Alternative delivery Mode of Secondary Education.

The training attended by PHILFEFFARS about Fund Raising Planning Workshop enabled the federation to start fund raising and submit proposals to various organizations. To date, two responded in the affirmative.
