Strengthening of the People's Organization (POs) in the Philippines

Community organization and formation of associations or cooperatives are two significant activities in this component. One structures are formed, they are then registered to accrediting institutions of the government such as the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) as cooperatives; the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as rural associations; and/or at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In 2011, the total number of people's organizations assisted with various project interventions summed up to 146. There were also seven federations formed. Total membership of theses associations adds up to 7,445 members. Around 35% or 2,642 of the PO members were trained in various organizational capacities such as the following:

1. Formulation of Vision, Mission, Goals;

2. Financial Management and Coaching

3. Gender Sensitivity and Equality

4. Values and leadership

5. Community-based Resource Management related laws

6. Coastal and Marine Resource Management laws.

In an effort to sustain and enhance the intervention of our partners to its desired beneficiaries, they network and establish linkages with other organization of various competencies. Among those who assisted our partners in broadening their development efforts are the following: Heifer Philippines International, Foundation for Philippine Environment, Cebu Uniting for Sustainable Water, Barangay, Municipal, And Provincial government units, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bohol Environment Management Office, Don Bosco Technical School, Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Training  Institue, Seaweeds Net, Philppine Social Enterprise  Network, Leyte State University, Department of Trade and Industry.
